SILVER SPADE LEATHER Co.
Silver Spade Leather Co. is comprised of a husband and wife duo, Caleb & Elisabeth Smith, in Westerville, Ohio.
Caleb’s introduction to the livestock industry started at an early age. He spent most of his childhood assisting in the rehabilitation of injured race horses, and after graduating high school he started in the western sales industry selling horse tack and shaping cowboy hats at Rod’s Western Palace in Columbus, Ohio. There, he was exposed to the art of leather craft while shadowing a renowned saddle fitter by the name of Bob Schnieder.
Caleb and Elisabeth met during his employment at Rod’s, and ended up moving to Cincinnati, Ohio for a few years. While in Cincinnati, Caleb worked for Tandy Leather Company where he refined his leather skills by learning to tool and design under the mentorship of various leather industry professionals. Having practical experience using various leather goods both inside and outside of the western industry, he not only has found a love for the craft of creating leather products and horse tack, but also making them better and more functional versions.
While Caleb is the mastermind behind the craft, Elisabeth supports Silver Spade Leather Co. in other business manners. Even though Caleb is teaching her the craft over weekends (her focus is more on the delicate sides of leather tooling through designing bracelets and jewelry), her background is in Graphic Design & Advertising. The two of them work as a true dynamic duo by designing products together and coming up with unique ways to make their client’s dreams come true.
